Pat takes us back “Before”
On the behalf of Ballina Fringe Festival, Ballina Arts Centre is delighted to stage Pat Kinevane’s new play Before. Set in Clery’s on the day that the iconic Dublin department store closes for good, and with music composed by Denis Clohessy, the play follows the story of Pontius, a father trying to choose a gift for the daughter he hasn’t seen in almost 20 years. Some folk are impossible to buy for… But Pontius has to meet his estranged daughter in just one hour.

Finghín Collins plays classical piano
On behalf of Ballina Fringe Festival, Ballina Arts Centre is proud to welcome one of Ireland’s most famous musicians, the classical pianist Finghín Collins. Finghín will be playing Mozart’s Sonata in A major “Alla Turca”, Schubert’s Sonata in A major, D. 959, and a selection from the Ros Tapestry Suite. After winning RTÉ Musician of the Future in 1994, and the Classical Category at the National Entertainment Awards in 1998, Finghín went on to take first prize at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland in 1999. Since then he has developed a flourishing international career, performing throughout Europe, the United States and the Far East.
Finghín Collins appears at Ballina Arts Centre on Wednesday 16th October, 8pm. Tickets: €16 / €14.

Mick O’Dea Gallery Talk
Renowned artist Mick O’Dea, whose exhibition Encounters is on in the Civic Offices from 5- 25 October will give a Gallery Talk about the exhibition on Saturday at 3pm. This Talk is open to the public and free of charge.

Sligo band No Crows in St Michael’s Church
No Crows is a dynamic folk orchestra from the multicultural melting pot of Sligo’s music scene. Formed in 2005, No Crows’ growing output of original material reflects its diverse musical roots, from Irish traditional to Latin rumba, classical, jazz, rock and Balkan music. Audiences have been enthralled with the sheer width of the band’s original repertoire, from delicate Irish airs to Russian Gypsy mayhem, from Catalan Jota to original songs in many styles with lush string arrangements.

Pure Ballina Street Art Project Launch and Tour
The wave of contemporary street art crossing the country is about to arrive in Ballina as a leading event in this year’s Ballina Fringe Festival programme. Taking place 4-20 October this year, the festival programme is bigger and bolder, showcasing high quality and ambitious arts content with a North Mayo slant.
Pure Ballina, a new street art project, will leave a permanent legacy, using existing buildings and spaces as canvases for new street art works, as in the award winning Waterford Walls festival and Limerick’s street art projects.
Thanks to funding from the National Youth Council of Ireland and Creative Ireland, one of Ireland’s leading street artists Friz will embark on a residency with the North Mayo Youth Project, Involve Youth Project and Ballina Men’s Shed to develop the concept for the artwork, with the option to use content from the Jackie Clarke Collection archive for inspiration. Friz will then develop the flagship artwork, with the project groups delivering artworks on secondary sites with the assistance and advice of Ballina Tidy Towns. The groups will explore the themes of people and place in Ballina.

The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) 2018-2022 is funded by the Irish Government and co-funded by the European Social Fund and includes a special allocation under the Youth Employment Initiative.
